The activities of the NZ Milking Shorthorn Association are administered by Holstein Friesian New Zealand under a Memorandum of Understanding.
The Association is governed by a Board of directors representing regions throughout New Zealand, elected on a geographic basis to ensure national representation. At a local level, branches organise activities for breeders at various locations throughout the country.
